CT Scan Risky For Kids

The number of Americans who use CT (computed tomography) scans has surged in the last decade reaching 62 million in 2007 to check for appendicitis. Appendicitis is an inflammation of the appendix caused by a blockage.

The new study shows that health departments across America, the percentage of adult patients with appendicitis who were diagnosed using CT scans increased from just 6 percent in 1996, to 69 percent in 2006.

Dr. Daniel Tsze, the study's lead researcher, said he could not say whether the figures last one is "too high" because CT is the most accurate test for appendicitis.

"That's probably one of the main reasons for the increased use of CT scans, although there is actually no danger of radiation," said Tsze.

CT is an alternative to ultrasound, with no radiation. It is not as accurate as CT, but try first ultrasound can limit the number of patients who end up in the CT scanner.

Tsze advise patients and parents to ask questions if the doctor wants to do a CT scan to check for abdominal pain, is it really necessary or whether there are alternatives.

"Because the use of CT scans in children, to be quite dangerous due to radiation exposure their biggest lifetime and this could bring to some cancer risk," said Tsze.

Video rekaman perjalanan tim penjemput membawa Muhammad Nazaruddin dari Kolombia ke Indonesia diputar KPK, sebagai langkah menangkal isu bahwa Nazaruddin telah diintimidasi selama perjalanan Bogota-Jakarta, lebih menguat dan membesar tak keruan. Selain pemutaran video KPK juga memperlihatkan foto foto perjalanan Nazaruddin dari Kolombia ke Indonesia. Juru Bicara KPK Johan Budi membuka sejumlah file berisi foto-foto Nazar, mulai dari penyerahan yang bersangkutan dari kepolisian dan kejaksaan ke Imigrasi Kolombia.
Sepanjang itu, memang tak terlihat adanya indikasi penekanan atau intimidasi terhadap Nazaruddin. Nazar terlihat santai selama perjalanan.

Ia sempat tertidur di sofa pesawat. Nazar baru dikenakan jaket antipeluru saat pesawat tiba di Bandara Halim Perdana Kusuma. Setelah itu Nazar pun dibawa polisi ke Mako Brimob, Kelapa Dua, Depok, untuk ditahan di rumah tahanan. Dalam konferensi pers di Gedung KPK, Kamis (18/8), Ketua KPK Busyro Muqqodas menegaskan, dengan dirilisnya gambar dan video pemulangan Nazaruddin, opini-opini yang menyesatkan bahwa ada penekanan selama perjalanan, akan terjawab secara jelas kepada masyarakat.

"Jangan sampai mereka (masyarakat) kemudian tersesat oleh opini-opini yang tidak benar. Akhirnya merugikan gerakan-gerakan yang legal dalam rangka melakukan perlawanan terhadap korupsi yang semakin sistemik, semakin struktural dan semakin banyak aktor-aktornya," jelas Busyro.

"Silakan nanti menilai paparan fakta ini. Tapi sampai kapanpun perkara ini kami proses di kantor KPK, tapi sekali lagi kami menegaskan bahwa kami cukup percaya diri, kami cukup enjoy untuk mengemban amanat membongkar kasus dugaan korupsi Sesmenpora dan lain-lain berbasis fakta," tambah Busyro.

The PAL version of Gran Turismo 5 Prologue will feature the red Ferrari Formula 1 car (a Scuderia Ferrari F2007) that Kimi Raikkononen drove to world championship victory last year.
